we went to see Sinister
yesterday, and yeah, no i don’t recommend it (i thought i’d have
nightmares, but they have yet to come…hopefully WON’T). for someone who
loves creepy shit, that movie didn’t sit right with me. i mean i won’t
even post gifs of it. maybe it’s just me and since everyone reacts
differently to different situations, so maybe it won’t be as frightening
to someone else. the soundtrack really did it for me. of course they
edit the movie so that that creepy ass music plays the loudest at the
scariest parts, i know i wouldn’t have been as afraid if the music
didn’t fluctuate as much, the visuals wouldn’t creep me out as much
without the support of the soundtrack.
but anyway, the story if pretty much The Amityville Horror with a little twist. You can pretty much tell what’ll happen once the story begins, but there are little surprises here and there. The one thing that sets this movie apart from other horror movies is the creepy factor. I guess that’s the point, but the ‘home movies’ recording style, all filmed at night, sets a very appropriate tone for this genre. The murders in the movie were creative, that’s so sick to say, but I’ve never seen these ideas before. The whole talk of Pagan beliefs & deities and Norwegian Black Metal (my sister and I looked at each other at that part) hit a little close to home, even if it was just in passing; these little things that are also personal, made this one a little scarier for me. So it was original from that standpoint, but the main character reeked of Johnny Depp in the Secret Window and the children ghosts seemed sorta inexperienced & their makeup sucked so bad. Maybe it was a low budget (???) The film, for the most part, had original ideas, so i def see why The Daily Targum gave this one a B. I think the story needed a little more development, and felt too short. My favorite is how the whole family slept through EVERYTHING.
